Mysore Program
Mysore Style teaching refers to the traditional method of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, South India. Students progress through a series of postures performed to the rhythm of one's natural breathing. Postures are taught one at a time, based on each students breathing, flexibility, strength, and dedication to practice. This method of teaching is intended to foster self-reliance and independence in the process of developing a personal yoga practice.
Through consistency, one increases circulation, attains strength and grace, and becomes concentrated. This process of purification directs the mind toward meditation and a deeper, more mature understanding of Yoga. As originally codified in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Ashtanga Yoga is an eight-limbed path, leading to the realization of truth, knowledge, happiness and peace.
